The Markies is not an ordinary caravan, but it can serve as one because it meets all the B-road transport requirements. It was an entry for a temporary dwelling competition and was conceived as a mobile holiday home.

When it is on the road, the Markies measures 2.20 m by 4.40 m. Once it arrives at its destination, its floor space can be increased threefold in a matter of seconds.  Both side walls can be folded down electronically and the resulting area can then be covered automatically via the concertina-like awnings, which can be lowered to exactly the height desired.

The living space is thus divided into three zones: in the middle there is the kitchen, dining area and wc, on one side the living room with its transparent dome – which doubles as a terrace in good weather when the awning is raised – and on the other the bedroom, which can be split into smaller units and is covered by an opaque awning.  The space inside has a flexible layout and includes all the essential facilities: fitted cupboards, benches, up to four beds, a refrigerator, a cooker and a shower/toilet.

“Your home is where your office is”. Mobile phones, Wireless LAN and of course, in this case, mobile homes enable the most flexible and mobile lifestyle ever.

This “casa movil de Vodafone” by the Waskman Design Studio and Creative Space Culdesac combines different “minimalistic” needs which seems quite sufficient for a small family (bedroom, kitchen, bathroom, living room) with a portable architecture.

The multileveled home is finished with white polyethylene panels and transparent polycarbonate.

Zahlreiche Eigenschaften und Anforderungen an Minimalhäuser werden teilweise sogar besser von normalen Wohnwagen erfüllt:
multifunktionale Raumausnutzung und flexible Grundrissgestaltung auf wenigen Quadratmetern, Verwendung neuer Materialien, Konstruktionsmöglichkeiten und Technologien, sowie innovative ökologische Konzepte.

Die Reduzierung auf urspüngliche architektonische Aufgaben, wie Schutz vor Witterung und Erzeugen von Privatheit in Verbindung mit der Anforderung des mobilen Wohnens findet sich bei dem Wohnwagen YAT-A des Herstellers Knaus in einer durchaus ästhetischen Realität wieder. Verantwortlich dafür ist Prof. Peter Naumann von naumann-design, der für dieses Objekt auch mit zahlreichen Preisen gewürdigt wurde: caravaning design award 2004 / red dot award 2005 / nominee designpreis 2005 / Goldene Flamme 2006

YAT steht für „Young Activity Trailer“ und bietet durch die Reduzierung auf das Wesentliche, eine  funktionale Gestaltung und die Entwicklung eines einfachen Wohnraumkonzeptes alles Notwendige: Die Bänke der Sitzgruppe und der Tisch lassen sich einfach wegklappen. Küchenblock und Nasszelle befinden sich, zusammen mit Staumöglichkeiten am Bug des Trailers und schaffen so vielseitigem Raum für Abenteuer, Hobby und Alltag.

In GfK-Sandwich-Bauweise. Mit Platz für 2 Personen und großes Freizeit-Gerät wie Motorrad oder Quad – auf 3,64 Metern Innenlänge. Mit Klappbare Bänken und Klapptisch als Sitzgruppe, Feldbett oder Liegewiese. Vielseitig nutzbarer, großer Transportraum mit robuster Siebdruckplatte und 9 darin eingelassenen Verzurrösen als Basis. Auf Wunsch mit Transporthilfen wie Auffahrrampe und Standfixierung für Motorräder als Zubehör.

Zahlreiche Gestaltungsvarianten wurden von naumann-design entwickelt. Bei einer  Gesamtlänge von 5.44 Meter (inkl. Deichsel) und einem Gewicht ab 880 kg ist der Multifunktions-Trailer äusserst wendig.

The SNAIL SHELL SYSTEM is a low cost system that enables persons to move around, change their whereabouts and live in various environments. One unit supplies space for one person. It is mobile both on land and water. One person can move it slowly, either by pushing it like a wheel, walking inside it or on top of it.

On water it can be rowed, moved by a kite or hooked up to a vessel, for example, a ferry. The unit rests on one flat side and can be anchored in lakes, rivers, harbours or at sea. On land, it can be placed in city spaces, fields, forests etc.

The SNAIL SHELL SYSTEM takes up very little space and can easily be placed in a discreet way. It can be buried in the ground, exposing only the entrance. It can also function as a comfortable space inside existing buildings.

Several units can meet up and form temporary communities. The unit can be hooked up onto existing infrastructure like telecommunication lines and electricity cables (for example, by connecting it to street lamps). If special devices are added, the unit can supply its own energy.

The SNAIL SHELL SYSTEM can also be used for transporting different items and it can provide protection for persons when they participate in situations like demonstrations.

Yurts have housed people in Central and East Asia for centuries. The portability and easy assembly of their homes was, and continues to be, crucial for these nomadic communities.

The Yurta can serve as a long or short term dwelling (like a cottage or a festival booth) and vary according to its purpose (it can be installed on a platform or directly on the ground). The Yurta is an ideal shelter for backcountry expeditions, base camps, and leisure housing inspired by nature (to name a few).

There are many options in material choices and finishes. The main structure, visible on the inside, is made of wood; showcasing the natural feel and aesthetic qualities of the Yurta (such as the frame) The outer covers are sewn with great care and precision and can be made of various materials, like marine canvas or polyesters.

It can be used as a temporary booth at an outdoor event, or a long term dwelling away from city lights.

The Yurta can be assembled by two people in about 45 minutes.

The circular space is simply beautiful; combining the finest elements of traditional and modern designs. The structure of the wall, or lattice, is minimized to not only make transport and setup easier, but to add a lighter look and feel to the space. With less structure in the way, windows are accessible and airy…making the indoors of the Yurta feel like an extension of its natural surroundings. The canvas shell allows for a gentle glow with little to obstruct the sounds of its outdoor environment.

And tilt your eye to the sky! The large sky window in the centre of the space allows for the tracking of the passing sun and clouds throughout the day…and quite possibly, the Milky Way.
