The Markies is not an ordinary caravan, but it can serve as one because it meets all the B-road transport requirements. It was an entry for a temporary dwelling competition and was conceived as a mobile holiday home.
When it is on the road, the Markies measures 2.20 m by 4.40 m. Once it arrives at its destination, its floor space can be increased threefold in a matter of seconds. Both side walls can be folded down electronically and the resulting area can then be covered automatically via the concertina-like awnings, which can be lowered to exactly the height desired.

“Your home is where your office is”. Mobile phones, Wireless LAN and of course, in this case, mobile homes enable the most flexible and mobile lifestyle ever.
This “casa movil de Vodafone” by the Waskman Design Studio and Creative Space Culdesac combines different “minimalistic” needs which seems quite sufficient for a small family (bedroom, kitchen, bathroom, living room) with a portable architecture.

Credits: http://www.architectureandvision.com/ further infos: see below
“MercuryHouseOne” is a habitable unit designed as a mobile lounge, integrating functional and aesthetical considerations. While respecting ecological issues, it is designed to fit both in a natural or urban environment. The MercuryHouseOne is characterized by a compact volume with an approximate dimension of 9 x 4.5 meters. The exterior shell is a double curved shape made out of ultralight white Carrara marble pieces with a chrome seam and large acrylic windows and openings. Its shape recalls the beauty and efficiency of a water drop. The marble is backlit at night, enhancing the form and creating special attention for evening events.

The Tuimelhuis which was designed by architects Koers, Zeinstra and Van Gelderen represents – much like garden furniture – a mobile component of the immobile house. The Tuimelhuis offers the compact solution to an extensive catalog of functions and, by moving it around, the potential usages of the Tuimelhuis are constantly evolving. One minute it’s a store room, a study, a bedroom or a playroom and the next it’s a sheltered outdoor space. A number of Tuimelhuizen can create a constantly shifting configuration of buildings around the garden path. This informal method of building relates to the specific regenerative and season-bound character of gardens and courtyards.
The authors of the Tumblehouse are Jurjen Zeinstra, Mikel van Gelderen and Ira Koers. 1998

Summer-Container is a movable timber-framed holiday cabin, operating on the matchbox principle. The purpose of the project was to study temporary dwelling, the relationship of building with nature and adaptability and varied use of a small leisure home. The project has also studied the uses of domestic lumber and plywood products and glued structural joints.
Summer-Container is a small building with an ephemeral and unsettled spirit. It reflects contemporary social, environmental and cultural reality and it meets the needs of a present-day individual inhabitant. In addition this project is utilised to examine the characteristics of sustainable development in housing design and construction. At the same time Summer-Container is deeply rooted into the history of Finnish architecture. It is a reinterpretation of a conventional Finnish holiday cabin. It makes use of materials typically utilized in industry and transforms them into a restful summer-home. It also creates a variable structure, which is able to accommodate itself into a traditional Finnish countryside or forest.

Small scale housing forms what one could call the undergrowth of dwelling from which thoughts about the world are to germinate. One of the most important tasks for these pioneer species of architecture is to create possibilities for a balanced and interactive relationship between man and nature. It requires discarding anthropocentric thinking and understanding the inherent value of nature itself. It also means renewing the concept of time in architecture. Small-scale housing projects are typically characterized by a holistic approach and an inbuilt ephemeral quality.

This is NOT a container-prefab!

Of course, nature arranged on many levels provides an extension to existing nature as well as a symbol of its artificiality.
Should we expand nature vertically to increase the density of our environment? Will we build not only “vertical cities” but also “vertical landscapes”? Is this project called “campingflat” by artist and designer Kevin van Braak a possibility to provide multi-level extra space for visibility and accessibility?
No, in this case there is definitely not a pragmatic or functional approach. Kevin van Braaks project description:

Hotel Everland is a project by the artist-duo L/B (Sabina Lang and Daniel Baumann).
Everland is a Hotel with only one room including a bathroom, a kingsize bed and a lounge. The bounteous dimensioned room represents the subjective dream of a hotel: the architecture, the playful details, as well as the request to steal the golden embroidered bath towels. All Everland guests are partaking in the project.
